Truck stop gasoline meets federal standards, so it’s safe to use. The difference people are talking about isn’t safety, it’s detergent levels. Some gasoline meets higher cleanliness standards than others, and not all truck stop brands are certified under those programs.
That doesn’t mean truck stop gas is bad, but over the long term, higher-detergent fuel can help keep gasoline engines cleaner, especially under heavy loads like RV use. It’s more of a long-term maintenance consideration than a short-term concern.
He mentions TOP TIER gas in his video, and that’s exactly what I recommend people to use, and I use many myself when possible.
This would actually make a great article topic! I’ll work on that later today. Thanks for the idea! 🙂
::Hi Michelle!
Short answer: yes, it can happen, but it’s still something to take seriously.
Propane is naturally odorless, but an odorant is added so leaks are easy to notice. When a tank gets very low, that odor can sometimes become more noticeable, which is why people often smell it right as propane is about to run out. A quick smell at that moment is fairly common.
That said, propane should never linger inside an RV. If the smell sticks around, keeps coming back, or happens while appliances are running, shut the propane off at the tank, air the RV out, and have the system checked. Always treat any propane smell as a possible leak until you know otherwise.
::Bill is right on. It’s just not possible, especially if you have a 30a RV. Even with a 50a RV it’s almost always NOT going to work. If you must go electric, see if your current water heater has an electric mode or replace it with an electric tank water heater.
::RVLock is arguably the most popular replacement brand at the moment. I went with this one a while back. Love it: https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Majority-Patented-Security-Technology/dp/B07HPF1M83
::Hey Melissa, I’ve covered exactly this in an article: https://camperfaqs.com/tips-for-attending-an-rv-show
Hopefully that helps! 🙂 Good luck
::Hey Nicole, sorry, just got to this, but yes, you are fine plugging in. I would just plug in and wait to set up anything outside until it stops raining. Have fun!
::Not likely, as most weigh stations are for commercial trucks. BUT read the signs. If the signs say “All Vehicles” or includes RV’s or motorhomes, then I’d stop.
::Yes, if you want protection beyond quick voltage spikes. The Watchdog with EPO will shut off power when the voltage gets too high or too low, or if there’s a wiring fault. The regular watchdog surge protector doesn’t cut power, so it won’t stop damage from bad campground power.
Definitely worth it, imo
::It could be a battery issue, nearing the end of the unit’s life, or even high humidity in the RV at night. Might be a good time to just replace it.
::If you wait till your tanks are 3/4 full before you dump, followed by the gray tank to help clean it out a bit, you really shouldn’t have anything to worry about. The tiny bit of water left in the hose won’t hurt anything. Especially if you walk the hose to empty out any excess water after you dump.
::Yep, Starlink works like your WIFI at home. If you’re close enough, and they give you their password you will be able to connect.
::The San Antonio/Alamo KOA and Mission City RV Park look to be the two closest.
::It’s not too late to winterize, but I’d first inspect for any damage. Check out the step-by-step process here for what I’d recommend to do: https://camperfaqs.com/what-if-i-forgot-to-winterize-my-camper
::Check out Highview Park near Ennis, Texas. its an hour south of Dallas, has water and electric hookups and is only $18 a night ($9 if you have an America the Beautiful Senior Pass). Bonus, its lakefront!

There are several more on my list here that are closer, but are slightly over your $25/night requirement: https://camperfaqs.com/waterfront-rv-campsites-in-texas-under-30. But all are under $30.
::Hey Tom, here’s a link to the official Girard support page with their manuals: https://support.lci1.com/gp-llc-other-products.
