Chiricahua National Monument in southeastern Arizona is officially Chiricahua National Park, bringing the country’s national park count to 64. President Trump signed the designation into law on October 20, 2026.
Located near Willcox, Chiricahua is known for its towering rock spires and balanced rocks, shaped from volcanic material deposited roughly 27 million years ago. The National Park Service announcement confirms that the area, protected as a national monument since 1924, will continue offering hiking, camping, scenic drives, and wildlife viewing.
For anyone planning an RV visit, check the campground limits before booking. Bonita Canyon Campground has a 29-foot maximum for individual RVs or trailers, including racks and storage attachments. Many sites are small, reservations are required, and there are no hookups or dump station. Check the specific site description for room to fit your entire setup.
We’ve also updated our National Parks Checklist to include Chiricahua under Arizona. If you’re keeping track of your park visits, the updated version is available now.
