Tips for Attending an RV Expo

Iowa Boat & RV Show
Iowa Boat & RV Show

RV shows can range from massive exhibitions to smaller, more personal showings. No matter what kind of RV show you plan to attend, there are a few tips you can use to really enjoy the experience.

Know Why You're Going

Narrowing down exactly why you want to attend the show and your goals will help you get the most out of the experience.

RV shows can be packed with hundreds of recreational vehicles of all types with no way to tour every one you're interested in, plus attend all your favorite seminars, etc., especially if there are large crowds!

Once you understand your goals, it's time to make a plan!

Tip: Check out our guide that covers whether RV shows are worth it for a look at the pros and cons of these events.

Prepare for the Show

Preparing for the RV show ahead of time will make the experience much more enjoyable, especially if it's a large exhibition.

  • If possible, check their website to see if they have a floor plan, seminar schedule, a list of vendors, etc. Know ahead of time which vendors you want to visit and their locations.
  • Seminars have limited space and can fill up quickly, so plan to get to them early.
  • RV trade shows typically are on weekends, with some starting on Thursday or Friday. Try to make it on the weekdays to avoid the larger crowds.
  • You might be there all day, so wear something comfortable.
  • If you plan to buy a recreational vehicle, wait till the end of the last day for the best deal!

Take Notes

Use your phone to take pictures or videos of the RVs or gear you are interested in. Use the notes app on your phone (or paper and pen) to quickly write down your thoughts and first impressions.

Remember, you may see and tour dozens of RVs. After a while, they all start to look the same, and you'll forget which RV had which floorplan or features.

Check out our full guide of expert tips for attending an RV show to help make the experience as enjoyable as possible!

What Is the Best RV Show to Attend?

The best RV show is subjective, as it is the one that fits your needs and goals. For example, if you're looking to tour a certain model of RV from a certain manufacturer, then the best RV show for you is the one that features that specific RV.

With that said, a few shows stand out from the rest in terms of popularity, with a huge variety of vendor booths, educational seminars, etc. These include The Florida RV Super Show, the Hershey RV Show, and the Quartzsite RV Show.

If you can only make it to one show this year, I would recommend one of these. Or see our list of the ten best RV shows for more ideas. That's certainly not taking away from any other show. You can find something of value in just about every RV show out there.

Did you know...
The Hershey RV Show boasts of being the largest RV show in the U.S., with 1300 plus RVs from over 40 manufacturers covering more than 33 football fields!

    • You’re likely referring to the Chicago RV & Camping Show. I’m a midwesterner myself and definitely recommend checking out that show. It’s the midwest’s largest RV show (according to them at least), but if not, its got to be close Here’s the link to their site where you can print off a discount coupon and get the latest show dates: https://www.chicagorvshow.com/

    • We’ve gotten a few emails asking us this same thing. We haven’t been able to confirm a show in So Cal in years. I believe COVID and state mandates killed a lot of the shows that were planned in 2020 and there just hasnt been a resurgence yet. We’ll be sure to update this list with California RV shows as soon as we here of any. Thanks!

  2. Has the California RV Industry Show been cancelled or moved? It’s supposed to be Oct 4 to 8th, 2023. I dont see it on the list.

  3. What do you do at an RV show? I mean, obviously you can look at different models, etc., but I guess what I’m asking is what other peoples main reasons are for going? I’ve never been to one and just wondering if it’s worth the drive and my time. I’m not looking to buy anytime soon.

    • Depending on the show, you can tour various types of RVs – motorhomes, campervans, travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, popup campers, truck campers, you name it – and view new models of each. Plus, speak directly with the manufacturers, browse various RV accessories and parts from dozens of vendors, attend educational seminars, catch up with the latest industry news and technology, etc. Every show is different so I’d recommend researching whats going to be at the show you plan to attend. I’ve never had a goal or reason in mind, though, I just think they’re fun.

  4. When is the best day to attend an RV show to het the best price on a new RV? First day for the best selection? Last day for the best deal on a floor model? Does it even matter because you are buying from Dealer stock? Any tips on this front?

    Reply
    • Good question! For the best price, the popular advice is to wait until the last day when manufacturers try to unload any remaining RVs. Of course, whether they cut the price or not will vary by dealer. Keep in mind, “special” RV show pricing may not even be that special. So, before pulling the trigger, shop around at local dealers and/or RVTrader.com to compare pricing. Also, don’t be afraid to negotiate on their “special” show pricing, especially if you find the same model for cheaper elswhere.
