Camping in Illinois and Missouri Will Cost More in 2027

Illinois will raise state park camping fees by about 40% overall on January 1 and double its reservation charge to $10. A two-night reservation at a standard electric site will rise from $45 to $66, before separate payment-processing charges. Starting in March, Missouri will require a $5 permit for up to five days of camping at conservation areas that currently offer free camping. Missouri campers will also face a limit of six permits per person annually.

Winnebago Says There Are Too Many RV Dealerships

Winnebago’s chief financial officer says today’s RV sales cannot support the current number of dealership locations, and the company wouldn’t be surprised to see that number shrink. No specific closures were announced, but losing a local dealer could leave owners with fewer nearby options for service and warranty work. Meanwhile, Winnebago plans to invest more in parts, accessories, and service, though it hasn’t detailed what new services owners can expect or where.

Lifetime Camping Members Fought Back and Gained Control of the Resort

When an Oregon RV resort changed hands in 2017, its new owner stopped honoring lifetime camping memberships that had cost thousands of dollars. Seventy-one campers challenged that decision, winning a $3.2 million judgment that survived a lengthy appeals process. Nine years after the sale, Osprey Point RV Resort has reportedly been transferred to a trust created for those campers, putting the group in control of the property. Public reservations remain available while the trustees plan improvements and community events.

Manufacturers shipped fewer RVs to dealers during every month from January through September, leaving the year-to-date total 13.7% below 2025. Fifth wheels and Class A motorhomes took the biggest September hits, while Class B camper van shipments were up 10.1% for the year. Those figures measure dealer deliveries, not customer purchases, although separate registration data also show weaker demand for new RVs. The industry’s annual shipment forecast has fallen by roughly 59,000 units since March.

Yellowstone’s Record $105 Million Gift Has an AI Connection

Yellowstone is receiving the National Park Service’s largest single private gift from Tallgrass, a Blackstone-backed energy company developing power infrastructure for Google’s planned Cheyenne data center. Proposed uses include conservation, research, education, and a new visitor facility at Norris Geyser Basin. A Blackstone executive has described community giving as part of getting infrastructure projects built, while saying this donation is not tied to a specific project. NPS retains authority over park management, but the public announcements leave questions about the gift’s payment schedule and other terms.
