What do you use to help navigate while driving or even for trip planning? I usually just use Google Maps for everything, but you really have to pay attention to the route as its not always effective, or even safe, for an RV. What’s everybody else use?

When I’m trip planning at home I just use Google maps to get a good idea of the route. On the road, I use a Garmin 795. An RV GPS, and especially Google Maps, are not perfect. But an RV GPS is invaluable when it comes to RV-specific features like avoiding low clearances, steep grades, and more.
I also carry a Rand McNally Motor Carriers Road Atlas, but I hope i never have to break it out…lol

Ha, thanks! I just need to pull the trigger on a GPS. And I’d be lost with just a road atlas. lol I still think about my mom co-piloting on roadtrips with a large paper map telling my dad where to turn. I dont know how they got us anywhere back then!

Last time I use Google maps it had us take a detour to avoid traffic and took us down a narrow dirt road with trees scraping our roof (we eventually just had to turn around). I’ve also used apps like RV Trip Wizard, which are great but I didnt feel they were as up-to-date as they should be. Have since used a Garmin and have had zero issues.

It would be nice if Google would just add an “RV” setting, like they have for walking, biking, or car!
Garmin seems to be the most popular recommendation from everywhere I’ve looked.
