Winnebago Industries is closing its Charles City plant, impacting 36 workers, as per Iowa’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) site. The plant, which is 56,000 square feet, is the smaller of two facilities in Charles City where the Solis and Roam camper vans are made. This manufacturing will be transferred to the Lake Mills plant.

Winnebago spokesperson Daniel Sullivan mentioned in an email that the Lake Mills facility will now handle production for brands such as Revel, Travato, Solis, and Roam. The company is offering roles at the Lake Mills plant to affected employees and providing support during the transition.

A larger, 204,000-square-foot plant in Charles City, built in 2002-03, will remain operational. Tim Fox from the Charles City Area Development Corporation stated that while Winnebago hasn’t disclosed plans for the soon-to-be-vacant building, local officials are in early discussions with the company. Sullivan did not provide further details.

Winnebago, a top manufacturer of recreational vehicles, has facilities in Forest City, Lake Mills, and Charles City. The company employs around 7,200 people across Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, and Florida. Although the corporate headquarters moved to Eden Prairie, Minnesota, in 2021, the majority of RV manufacturing remains in northern Iowa, employing about 2,000 people.
