Camping World Targets Another $100 Million in Cuts as RV Sales Slide

Camping World plans to cut another $100 million from its annual cost structure after new RV sales fell 16.4% in the second quarter of 2026. The company reported $1.93 billion in revenue, down 2.1% from a year earlier, while used RV sales rose 5.2%. It also lowered its full-year adjusted EBITDA forecast to between $230 million and $270 million as industry demand remained weak into July.

The company has not detailed where the new savings will come from, though previous reductions included lower employee compensation following a headcount reduction in the second half of 2025. Camping World expects $50 million in annualized savings by the end of 2026 and the full $100 million to be reflected in its cost structure by early 2028. Customers may be watching staffing, service, support and dealership operations closely as those changes roll out.

RV Sales Are Slumping, but Some Brands Are Still Gaining Ground

New RV retail registrations fell 19.04% in May 2026 compared with a year earlier, marking the ninth straight month of year-over-year declines. Towables were hit especially hard, but several manufacturers are outperforming the broader market. Alliance RV reported record retail sales in May, June and July, though it did not release unit totals or year-over-year comparisons.

Motorhomes have also been a brighter spot for some companies. Winnebago Industries credited Grand Design Motorized and Newmar with helping improve its motorhome business, while THOR Industries reported a 9.1% increase in North American motorized shipments during its fiscal third quarter. THOR said moderately priced Class C models remained popular, even as its North American towable shipments fell 25%. The figures point to a market where buyers are becoming more selective and certain brands and products are capturing a larger share of reduced demand.

Glacier Hiker Sinks Shoulder-Deep After Stepping Off Trail

A 22-year-old hiker at Glacier National Park sank from her feet to her shoulders after stepping onto muddy ground near Johns Lake on June 19. Hannah Murphy said she could not feel the bottom or push herself free, and her friends eventually pulled her back onto firm ground.

National Park Service officials said she was almost certainly trapped in deep mud rather than quicksand. The Johns Lake area is known for muddy pockets where visitors can unexpectedly sink well below the surface. Murphy said the experience reinforced the value of hiking with other people, since she does not believe she could have escaped on her own.

Campfires Banned at Olympic National Park as Fire Danger Climbs

Campfires are being banned in Olympic National Forest and Olympic National Park as hot, dry weather raises wildfire risk across the Pacific Northwest. The restriction begins at 12 a.m. Friday and covers campfires, charcoal grills and other devices that produce ash.

Gas and propane stoves, lanterns and heating devices are still allowed under specific safety conditions, including keeping flammable material at least 3 feet away and using equipment that can be shut off immediately. Federal officials are also reminding visitors that fireworks are prohibited on public lands and urging campers to check current restrictions before traveling.
