The Dyrt, a leading app for camping information, has just released its list of the top dog-friendly campgrounds in the U.S. for 2024. According to their recent report, over half of campers (53.7%) took their dogs along on their trips in 2023. The report also showed that nearly half of these campers (46.8%) prefer RV camping, making it a perfect option for traveling with pets.

The top spot for dog-friendly camping went to 4 Paws Kingdom Campground & Dog Retreat in Rutherfordton, North Carolina. This campground is designed especially for dogs and their owners, with no kids allowed to ensure a peaceful experience for everyone. It covers nine acres, and some campsites even have fenced-in yards for the dogs to roam freely.

Sarah Smith, the founder of The Dyrt, pointed out that both people and dogs love camping for similar reasons: the chance to get out of the house, enjoy nature, explore, and relax by a fire. She shared that her dog, Brandy, enjoys camping just as much as she does.

The Top 9 for K-9s list wraps up The Dyrt’s awards season, which included other awards like The Glampys and Best Places to Camp. The campgrounds on this list were chosen based on reviews, photos, and the amenities they offer. Here are the top nine dog-friendly campgrounds:

          1. 4 Paws Kingdom Campground & Dog Retreat — North Carolina
          2. Wagonhammer RV Park & Campground — Idaho
          3. Lake George RV Park — New York
          4. Alum Creek State Park — Ohio
          5. Tahoe Valley Campground — California
          6. Campground at James Island County Park — South Carolina
          7. Chatfield State Park — Colorado
          8. First Landing State Park — Virginia
          9. Santa Fe Skies RV Park — New Mexico

These campgrounds received great reviews from campers, especially those looking for places that accommodate their pets. The report also noted that dog parks, Wi-Fi, and pickleball courts were among the most added amenities by campground owners.
