3. THOR Says the Expected RV Recovery Never Arrived
THOR Industries CEO Bob Martin says the retail rebound many in the industry expected in 2026 did not materialize. North American towable shipments fell 19.7% in THOR’s fiscal fourth quarter, and the company expects the retail market to remain relatively flat in fiscal 2027. THOR is restructuring its operations and cutting costs as it tries to keep RV prices within buyers’ reach.
4. Could Restricting Diesel Exports Bring Pump Prices Down?
With the national diesel average near $6.50 a gallon on September 25, President Trump has voiced support for restricting U.S. diesel exports. One JPMorgan analysis estimated that a 30-day export halt could bring diesel to about $4.70 a gallon within 15 days. That is a modeled scenario, not a forecast. Analysts and administration officials have also raised concerns that a prolonged halt could disrupt refinery operations.
5. RV Shipments Reach Their Lowest August Total in More Than a Decade
Manufacturers shipped 23,599 RVs to dealers in August, down 16.4% from a year earlier and the lowest August total in the historical comparison cited in the article. Shipments through August were down 14.2% for the year. These figures track deliveries to dealers rather than purchases by RV shoppers, but they show that manufacturers are still holding back production.
6. Forest Service Proposal Could Change Boondocking Access
The U.S. Forest Service is considering a new approach to motor vehicle access on national forest land, including limited travel off designated routes to reach dispersed campsites. The proposal could lead to more access later, but it does not open any closed roads today. Existing Motor Vehicle Use Maps and local restrictions remain in effect while the rulemaking continues.
7. THOR Warns a Major Supplier Merger Could Raise RV Costs
THOR says the proposed merger of Patrick Industries and Lippert’s parent company could leave RV manufacturers with fewer parts suppliers and give the combined company more pricing power. Patrick and Lippert argue that joining forces would cut costs and help make RVs more affordable. The deal remains subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals, so its effect on RV prices is still unknown.
