New Safety Rule for RVs Coming in 2026 to Prevent “Hot Skin” Shocks
The 2026 edition of the National Electric Code (NEC) will introduce a new safety requirement for RVs to prevent dangerous “hot skin” conditions, where an RV’s metal exterior becomes electrified due to faulty grounding. Starting in September 2026, all new RVs with 30A or 50A electrical service must have a Grounding Monitor Interrupter (GMI). This device will ensure a proper ground connection before allowing power to flow and will disconnect power if ground is lost during use. RV parks are encouraged to check their electrical systems now to prepare for the change.
Forest and Park Services Cut 4,400 Jobs Under Federal Spending Reductions
The U.S. Forest Service is laying off 3,400 employees, while the National Park Service is cutting another 1,000 as part of President Trump’s effort to reduce federal spending. The cuts mostly affect probationary employees and exclude firefighters and law enforcement. Critics warn that the layoffs could have serious consequences for park maintenance and visitor services. The National Park Service has not commented on the decision, but advocacy groups say the cuts could negatively impact public lands.
Trump Announces “Fair and Reciprocal” Trade Plan to Address Tariff Imbalances
President Trump has unveiled the “Fair and Reciprocal Plan,” a trade initiative aimed at leveling the playing field for American businesses. The plan will impose reciprocal tariffs on countries that restrict U.S. exports or subsidize their own industries unfairly. The U.S. Trade Representative and the Department of Commerce will investigate foreign trade practices and report on their findings within 180 days. The RV Industry Association and other business groups are monitoring the impact of these policies on their industries.
Arizona State Parks Raising Fees for the First Time in Over a Decade
Starting February 25, entrance and camping fees at Arizona state parks will increase for the first time since 2012. Day-use fees will rise by $3 to $5, while camping fees will now range from $25 to $75 per night. The revenue will help fund park maintenance, staff salaries, and infrastructure improvements. Officials say the fee hikes are necessary to keep parks in good shape as operating costs climb. A full list of updated fees will be available on the Arizona State Parks website.
