I just watched a disturbing video of a trailer smacking into the side of a bridge. So, what’s the best way to avoid this new fear of mine. I have a 2018 Keystone Hideout. I was told it was 11ft high.
First, I’d measure your trailer to know exactly how tall it is. From the ground to the highest point on your trailer. If it’s around 11 ft you’ll be good on the highways, but there may be side streets that could be a concern.
That said, an RV GPS like RV Life will help you plan your route based on your RV’s height.
Here’s a little tip I use – write the height down on a sticky note and stick it somewhere in eye sight while you’re driving so you can quickly glance at it when a low-clearance bridge is approaching. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve seen a low clearance sign and my stomach dropped while trying to remember how tall my rig is. Probably my age doesnt help 🙂
