Forest River Inc. has announced that it’s closing its manufacturing facilities in Hemet and Rialto, California, which will impact around 400 employees. The company is exiting California for manufacturing, citing the rising costs of doing business in the state as the reason for the move.

However, Forest River isn’t completely leaving the state. They plan to convert one of their Hemet locations into a service center dedicated to helping California RV owners and dealers. Doug Gaeddert, president of Forest River’s RV Division, said, “Forest River has a strong commitment to the California retail market, and although our manufacturing presence is ending, our dedication to our dealers and customers is unwavering.”

Manufacturing from the California plants will be moved to Indiana, where Forest River is headquartered. The closures are expected to wrap up by the end of 2024, with the new service center ready around the same time. Forest River is working to support the employees impacted by this transition.

Businesses are leaving that state in droves.
