Gas Prices Climb Back Above $4 Nationwide

Drivers across the United States are seeing a familiar number again at the pump. The national average price for regular gasoline has risen to about $4.02 per gallon, according to AAA, marking the first time the average has crossed that level since 2022. Just over a month earlier, the national average was around $2.98, showing how quickly prices have moved upward.

The increase comes as global oil prices rise amid tensions in the Middle East, along with the seasonal shift to more expensive summer-blend gasoline. Prices also vary widely by state. California drivers are paying roughly $5.89 per gallon, while Oklahoma drivers average closer to $3.27. Analysts say higher fuel costs can ripple through the economy, raising transportation expenses and eventually affecting prices for everyday goods. Diesel prices have climbed as well, adding pressure for freight companies and businesses that rely on shipping.

Energy analysts say several developments could bring relief, including increased oil production or releases from strategic reserves. Even then, lower oil prices do not always translate into immediate savings at the pump. As warmer weather approaches and travel demand grows, fuel costs may continue to affect road trip budgets across the country.

Proposed Federal Budget Targets Major Cuts to National Parks

A proposed federal budget for fiscal year 2027 includes significant changes affecting the National Park Service. The plan calls for a $736 million reduction to park operations funding, which would represent a cut of more than 25 percent from current levels. That funding supports day to day operations such as park rangers, maintenance crews, visitor centers, and educational programs.

The proposal would also reduce the Park Service construction budget to less than $50 million, a drop of about 72 percent compared with 2025 levels. At the same time, the budget outlines a separate $10 billion construction and beautification program focused on projects in Washington, D.C. Some park advocates have raised concerns about that shift since the national park system faces a maintenance backlog that exceeds $23 billion.

The debate arrives as national park visitation remains high. The Park Service recorded more than 323 million visits in 2025, with dozens of parks reporting record attendance. Congress will ultimately decide final funding levels during the appropriations process, so lawmakers could revise or reject parts of the proposal before any changes take effect.

Investigation Finds Dozens of RVs Sold Without Owners Knowing

Authorities in California are investigating a dealership accused of selling recreational vehicles without notifying the owners who placed them on consignment. The case centers on Carson Pass RV in Lockeford, where investigators say at least 37 RVs may have been sold without the owners receiving payment or approving the transaction.

The situation has left several groups affected. Some owners say their RVs disappeared from the lot without payment, while buyers who thought they made legitimate purchases are now facing difficulties registering the vehicles because ownership transfers were never completed. Officials say the financial losses could reach into the millions since some of the units involved are high end motorhomes worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Consignment sales are common in the RV industry. Typically, owners leave their RV with a dealership that markets the unit and handles paperwork when it sells. Investigators say the Lockeford case shows how problems can arise when payment and title transfers do not follow the expected process. The dealership appears to be closed as the investigation continues, and authorities are asking potential victims to contact law enforcement.
