Newbie here, can we run the water heater and the water pump off the battery when we are boondocking?

The water pump yes, the water heater you will want to run on propane and will need a little electricity from the battery to run the control board

Like Bill said, you will need battery for both, but you’ll want to use propane for the water heater. They use a lot of electricity but run pretty efficiently on propane, making propane ideal for boondocking.
