Google Maps Gets an AI Makeover With Gemini, Changing How Drivers Navigate

Google Maps is getting a major overhaul powered by Gemini, Google’s latest AI tool. This update replaces the old voice assistant with one that can carry on full conversations. You can now ask for fuel stops, restaurants, or even calendar updates without saying “Hey Google” over and over. It remembers what you were talking about and responds with more context-aware answers.

Navigation is also changing. Instead of just saying “turn in 500 feet,” Maps now uses real-world landmarks to guide you, like “turn left at the traffic light after the grocery store.” That feature has started showing up for U.S. users on both Android and iPhone.

Gemini also handles traffic reports. You can just say what you see, and Maps will create a report. It’s rolling out across both Google Maps and Waze. Add in early warnings for traffic slowdowns and road hazards, and the app starts acting more like a travel assistant than just a GPS.

For RV drivers, the changes bring real perks, but also some limitations. There’s no built-in data for RV height or weight limits, and you still need a steady internet connection. The feature is live now in the U.S., with Android Auto compatibility in the works.

Grand Design Rolls Out Limited-Time Rebates on 2024–2025 Fifth Wheels

Grand Design is offering rebates of up to $2,500 on new 2024 and 2025 models in its Solitude, Momentum, and Influence fifth wheel lines. The offer is valid on purchases made between November 1 and December 31, 2025. Buyers have until mid-January 2026 to submit their paperwork and receive a rebate check.

Solitude and Momentum M-Class qualify for the full $2,500, while the G-Class and Influence lines offer $2,000 back. This applies only to new, unregistered units purchased from authorized dealers.

It’s not automatic—you’ll need to submit proof of purchase and meet all deadlines. For those already planning a fifth wheel purchase, this could cover extras or trim the final cost.

Norcold Files for Bankruptcy After Years of Struggles

Norcold, a longtime maker of RV and marine refrigerators, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware. The company reports liabilities exceeding $300 million with assets estimated between $10 million and $50 million. This follows a decade of challenges that began with a large recall in 2010 and a market shift toward 12-volt compressor units.

Production at Norcold’s U.S. plant ended in 2022, and the company now operates only as a distributor. It currently has no direct employees. Dave Carter & Associates stepped in with a $13 million loan to support the company during its wind-down and plans to acquire its assets.

Norcold says it’s still honoring warranty claims for now. But the future is uncertain, especially for owners of LP gas absorption models. If production ends, parts could become harder to find. Alternatives remain available through Dometic and JC Refrigeration, but Norcold’s long-term support is in question.
