I winterized my plumbing system last weekend. But I haven’t done anything with the battery yet. Temps will reach the negatives at times during winter, but usually above zero where I live (Northern America). Should I run the generator periodically to keep it charged or take it out?

I prefer to remove the battery as you have more control over the temperature its in, ensure nothing drains it, and that it’s always charged properly. BUt, I know plenty of people that leave it in over the winter.
If you do plan to take it out, you’ll want to hook it up to a battery tender to keep it charged. Here’s my step-by-step process for storing an RV battery over winter: https://camperfaqs.com/how-to-store-an-rv-battery-for-winter. I’m also operating on the assumption that you have a lead-acid battery. That article I linked to touches on what to do if you have a different type of battery, ie, lithium batteries.

We’ve never taken ours out. I do full charge and disconnect them. I also chekc on them, but in all the years I’ve owned an Rv I’ve never had to charge them. I too live in the northern part of the country.
Not saying this is the right way, but I’ve yet to have an issue.

I remove my battery and store it inside every winter. It only takes 15 minutes and is worth my peace of mind.
