A Byron family’s summer road trip took a tragic turn when their dog, Chief, died after being left in an overheated RV.
Dawn Shover and her husband were visiting grandkids in Ohio when disaster struck. They thought they’d done everything right, leaving the generator running to power the AC for Chief while they enjoyed a day at the fair. But when they returned six hours later, they found a nightmare.
The RV was scorching hot inside, over 100 degrees, and Chief was barely breathing on the floor. Their brand-new generator had failed, shutting down the AC. Despite their efforts, Chief didn’t make it.
Now Shover’s on a mission to warn other RV-loving pet owners. She’s pushing for better safety features in RVs, like “soft start” air conditioners, to prevent similar tragedies.
Local campground owner Randy Bryant weighed in, reminding folks that managing power in an RV can be tricky. He cautioned about being careful not to overload the system.
Shover’s message is clear: When it comes to pets and summer heat, you can’t be too careful. She hopes Chief’s story might save other furry lives down the road, emphasizing that this tragedy could have been prevented.

Heartbreaking. Also stresses the importance of using a temperature monitor device and/or video pet monitor system like Waggle.

So sad… Meet MarCell is another pet monitoring option. Will work during power outages as well – https://www.meetmarcell.com/
