It’s extremely hot this time of year and I see a lot of folks asking on forums and groups how to safely leave their pets in their RV while they are away. Below are some practical tips to help keep your pets as safe as possible.

          1. Climate Control
Use a reliable thermostat and climate control system. Consider pet-specific temperature monitors like Waggle and Meet Marcell, which can alert you via your phone if the temperature becomes unsafe.

          2. Safety Precautions
Lock all windows and doors. Secure any loose items that could harm your pet. Make sure your pet cannot escape through windows, doors, or other openings.

          3. Comfort and Entertainment
Create a cozy area for your pet with their bed, blankets, and favorite toys. Provide toys to keep your pet occupied. Leave the TV or radio on low volume for background noise.

          4. Hydration and Nutrition
Ensure access to fresh water using a spill-proof bowl. Stick to your pet’s regular feeding times. If you’ll be away during feeding time, use an automatic feeder.

          5. Supervision and Check-ins
Install pet cameras like Blink to monitor your pet remotely. This allows you to check in and ensure they are safe. If possible, have a neighbor or friend check on your pet periodically.

          6. Training and Acclimatization
Train your pet to feel comfortable being alone in the RV. Start with short absences and gradually increase the time. Allow your pet to get used to the RV environment by spending time with them in it.

          7. Legal and Safety Regulations
Be aware of local laws regarding leaving pets unattended. Your pet’s collar should have an ID tag with your contact information. Consider microchipping for added security.

          8. Backup Power
Have a backup power source like a generator or solar panels to keep climate control systems operational if the main power fails.

          9. Carry an Emergency Card
Carry a card that first responders can find stating your pet needs help if something happens to you.

          10. Emergency Sticker
Place a sign on your RV that says a pet is on board, such as an “In Case of Emergency” sticker.

Great post! We use a Ring camera so we can check in on our pets form anywhere and it even allows us to talk to them.
