We are heading west this summer (we are from the midwest) and would like, if possible, to save some money by overnighting at free spots. Rest areas would be very convenient. Just to sleep. Is this legal? I couldnt find a definitive answer. Thanks
It really depends, as the rules and regulations vary by state and specific rest area. Some states allow it for a limited time (8 hours, for example), while others strictly prohibit it. I would research by state and have a backup plan.
