The National Park Service (NPS) is waiving entrance fees for six days in 2025, giving everyone a chance to visit more than 400 national parks for free.
These special days include:
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 20)
- the first day of National Park Week (Apr. 19)
- Juneteenth (Jun. 19)
- Great American Outdoors Act Signing Day (Aug. 4)
- National Public Lands Day (Sept. 27)
- Veterans Day (Nov. 11).
These free entrance days are a great way to enjoy the beauty, history, and culture of the parks without worrying about the cost (just plan for them to be busier than normal). For those interested, the NPS website offers tools to help plan visits, including a park locator and a trip-planning guide.
If you’re planning a visit, it’s best to research your destination ahead of time. Some parks require reservations for camping or lodging, and activities like hiking or guided tours can fill up quickly. Be sure to pack the essentials, like water, weather-appropriate clothing, and maps. You can download offline maps using the NPS app in case you lose service.
