Michigan Cracks Down on RV Snoozing at Rest Stops
Michigan is moving to ban overnight stays in RVs at rest areas, scenic turnouts, and other roadside facilities. The new administrative rules define sleeping in a parked RV as “camping” and would make it illegal without written permission from the state’s Department of Transportation. While short breaks are still allowed, dozing off in your rig, even for a few hours, could now be a misdemeanor. The rules are set to take effect immediately unless delayed by specific legal provisions.

Conflicting info from U.S. border officers is adding to the frustration, with some travelers being told to register on-site while others are unaware of an alternative online form that skips biometric checks. The $30-per-person I-94 registration is now a required step for many long-term visitors.

Haven’t been there in years but have nothing but great memories camping in the Rapid City/Black Hills area. It does get really packed in that area if you go over summer.
