Ford owners who tow travel trailers and fifth wheels have a new recall to check. More than 4.3 million vehicles are now included in a federal safety action involving trailer brakes and lighting.
On February 20, 2026, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration posted recall campaign number 26V104000. The recall covers 4,381,878 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with an Integrated Trailer Module. According to the notice, the module can lose communication with the vehicle while towing. If that happens, trailer brake lights and turn signals may stop working, and in some cases, trailer brake function may be lost.
Federal regulators state that the condition fails to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, which governs lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment. Loss of trailer lighting can reduce visibility to other drivers. Loss of trailer braking can reduce a driver’s ability to control the trailer.
Models included in the recall span much of Ford’s current truck and SUV lineup. Affected vehicles include:
2026 Ford E-Transit
2022–2027 Ford Expedition
2021–2026 Ford F-150
2022–2026 Ford F-250 Super Duty
2022–2026 Ford F-350 Super Duty
2022–2026 Ford F-450 Super Duty
2022–2026 Ford F-550 Super Duty
2023–2026 Ford F-600 Super Duty
2022–2026 Ford Maverick
2024–2026 Ford Ranger
2022–2027 Lincoln Navigator
Several of these models, including the F-150 and Super Duty trucks, are widely used as tow vehicles for RVs and cargo trailers. Owners who pull heavier fifth wheels or toy haulers with F-350, F-450, or F-550 models are also included in the recall population.
Ford will address the issue through a software update to the Integrated Trailer Module. The update can be performed at a dealership at no charge. Ford also plans to provide an over-the-air update for eligible vehicles. Owner notification letters are expected to begin mailing on March 17, 2026. Starting that same date, VINs will be searchable on NHTSA’s website. Ford has assigned recall number 26C10 to this action, and owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 for additional information.
This recall comes days after another Ford action involving more than 410,000 2017–2019 Ford Explorer SUVs for a suspension issue that could lead to loss of steering control. In that case, NHTSA reported two crashes potentially linked to the defect as of February 20, with no injuries reported.
