Chrysler has issued a major safety recall affecting more than 456,000 vehicles equipped for towing. The recall centers on a faulty trailer tow module that can cause trailer lights to stop working and trailer brakes to fail.
For RV owners and others who regularly tow, this defect presents a direct safety concern. Brake lights and turn signals that fail to illuminate reduce visibility for surrounding traffic. A loss of trailer braking increases stopping distance, especially when pulling heavier loads.
What Triggered the Recall
According to the recall notice, the trailer tow module used in certain vehicles was improperly designed. When a trailer is connected, the module may not correctly control exterior trailer lighting or trailer brake functions. Chrysler issued the recall on February 2, 2026.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has assigned this recall campaign number 26V059000. Chrysler estimates that up to 456,287 vehicles may be affected.

- 2024–2026 Jeep Wagoneer S
- 2026 Jeep Cherokee
- 2025–2026 Ram 1500 Pickup
- 2025–2026 Ram 2500 Pickup
- 2025–2026 Ram 3500 Pickup
- 2025–2026 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis
- 2025–2026 Ram 4500 Cab Chassis
- 2025–2026 Ram 5500 Cab Chassis
Remedy and Owner Notification
Chrysler dealers will replace the trailer tow module at no cost to the owner. Notification letters are expected to be mailed on March 24, 2026. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall number 03D.
Vehicle Identification Numbers associated with this recall will become searchable on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website beginning February 10, 2026.
What to Do If You Tow With One of These Vehicles
If you own one of the affected models and tow a trailer, manually verify trailer lights and brake operation before each trip until the recall repair has been completed. Checking your vehicle status through the NHTSA database will confirm if your truck or SUV is included.
Scheduling the dealer repair as soon as parts and appointments are available will restore normal trailer lighting and braking functions.
