# I Asked Campers to Name the Worst Part of Camping. Over 1,500 Comments Later, One Answer Destroyed the Rest.

I asked my followers one simple question: *What's the worst part about camping?*

I asked it three times over on our [Facebook page](https://www.facebook.com/camperfaqs), and each post pulled over 500 comments.

And in typical Facebook comments fashion, people did not hold back.

Some answers were funny. Some were painfully relatable. And the single most popular answer? It wasn't what I expected at all.

Here's what your fellow campers had to say.

## 1. Barking Dogs

If there were an award for the most universally despised campground sound, barking dogs would win in a landslide. This answer showed up in all three threads, over and over again.

One commenter ranked their top three camping complaints. Barking dogs took both the \#1 and \#2 spots. Rain came in third.

It's not that people don't like dogs. Most campers, including myself, love them. But a dog barking incessantly at 11 p.m. while you're trying to fall asleep? That's a different story.

## 2. Loud, Inconsiderate Neighbors

This one covered a lot of ground: loud music, people arguing, drunk campers who seem to think nobody else exists, generators running well past quiet hours, and car alarms going off in the middle of the night.

One commenter put it perfectly: the whole point of camping is to escape the noise of the city. When someone turns their campsite into a tailgate party, it defeats the purpose for everyone around them.

Another said they don't mind rain, bugs, or any of it. But drunk people who don't think anyone around them needs sleep? That's the dealbreaker.

## 3. Blinding LED Lights

This one surprised me with how passionate people were about it. Modern LED setups are incredibly bright, and a lot of campers leave them blazing all night long.

One commenter specifically called out 5,000 kelvin LEDs left on until sunrise. Another simply said: "Neighbors. And lights. Turn them off\!"

Several people mentioned that bright lights and loud neighbors are the ultimate combo from hell. If your site is next to someone running a light show and a speaker, you're not sleeping.

## 4. The Reluctant Camping Partner

This was one of my favorite themes because it clearly struck a nerve.

"Someone who is with you that doesn't want to do anything" was one of the most-liked comments across all three threads. Others mentioned bringing along a husband who hates camping, dealing with a cranky spouse, or just going with the wrong person entirely.

One commenter with 56 likes summed it up: stuff happens when you camp, and you need to roll with it or stay home. Camping with someone who refuses to roll with it? That's worse than rain.

## 5. Rain (Every. Single. Time.)

Rain didn't dominate any single thread, but it showed up in nearly every one. It's the background complaint that never goes away.

The most relatable version: "Rain, from the time we leave, til the time we get home, then the sun comes out." If you've camped long enough, you've lived that exact scenario.

Others mentioned rain ruining entire trips, rain making everything muddy and miserable, and rain being the one thing you truly can't plan around.

## 6. Campsites Crammed Together

A lot of campers said modern campgrounds feel less like nature and more like parking lots.

Comments about neighbors being 10 feet away, sites being too close together, and the general lack of privacy came up repeatedly. When your neighbor is close enough to hear your conversation at normal volume, it stops feeling like an escape.

## 7. Mosquitoes and Bugs

No list about camping complaints would be complete without bugs. Mosquitoes were mentioned by name in almost every thread, sometimes with nothing else added. Just the word and a mosquito emoji. That says enough.

## 8. Running Out of Beer

OK, this one was clearly half-joke, half-deadly-serious, and it showed up way more than I expected.

"Running out of beer" appeared in all three threads. So did "Forgot the beer." One commenter added the twist of having their beer confiscated because they didn't realize they were at an alcohol-free campground. Another said the worst scenario is when your campsite is named after Crystal Lake... and you didn't bring enough beer.

## 9. Backing the RV Into the Site

This one is deeply specific to the RV crowd, and it clearly hit a nerve.

"Helping my husband back up the RV" got a flood of reactions. Others mentioned the stress of trying not to clip the side of the house while pulling out of the driveway, or the classic moment where you have to apologize to your partner after backing in.

If you've ever directed someone into a tight campsite with hand signals that apparently mean nothing, you know exactly why this made the list.

## 10. Setup, Teardown, and the Unglamorous Chores

Nobody talks about this in the camping Instagram posts, but a huge chunk of the camping experience is just... work. Setting up, tearing down, dumping tanks, loading and unloading everything, and then doing the whole process in reverse when you get home.

One commenter nailed it in six words: "Set up. Pack up. Dump tanks."

Another pointed out that unpacking at home is somehow worse than packing to leave. The trip is over, the fun is done, and now you're standing in your driveway sorting through bins.

## 11. And the \#1 Answer...

Here's what I didn't expect.

Out of all the complaints, all the barking dogs and bright lights and bad neighbors and rain... the single most popular answer, by a massive margin, was this:

**Going home.**

One comment alone pulled over 450 likes. "Packing to leave and packing to come home" got nearly 200. "When it's time to go home" broke 100. Variations of "having to leave" showed up dozens of times across all three threads.

That's the thing about camping. People will sit there and complain about the bugs and the weather and the neighbors and the guy who forgot the beer. But when it's time to pack it all up? That's the part that actually hurts.

## Bonus: The Oddball Answers

Not every answer fits neatly into a category. Some of my favorites:

- **Wind chimes.** Somewhere, a camper is decorating their site with wind chimes and has no idea how many people want to cut them down.
- **Forgetting the coffee maker.** There is no recovering from this.
- **"The guy in the hockey mask showing up."** Camp Crystal Lake vibes.
- **"When darkness comes and Bigfoot doesn't want you there."** Fair.
- **"Stinky slinky."** If you know, you know. If you don't, count yourself lucky.
- **"Leaving the wife in the rest area and realizing it 3 hours later. Man, that was a peaceful 3 hours."** Sir.
- **"Teenagers. (LOL)"** No further explanation needed.
