While we can’t speak for all composting toilets, we can safely say this isn’t an issue for the Nature’s Head Self-Contained Composting Toilet. Obviously, proper maintenance is key here, but if you take care of your composting toilet, you shouldn’t have any issues.

That said, there are a few negative considerations to include in this department.

It could be easier to set up. If you don’t put everything together correctly the first time, it can fail without warning. Otherwise, this is a reliable and comfortable porta potty. Set it up right the first time, and you won’t have any issues. 

The Dometic 301097506 Portable Toilet, admittedly, doesn’t look much like a toilet at all. But don’t let the design scare you in terms of operating. A small learning curve is worth the effort and one that you’ll find easy to master with routine use. Simply press a button to activate the battery-powered flush. The model includes a simple pump that prevents unwanted smells, too!

The size is great for kids, but it is admittedly a little low to the ground for adults. The pump is also a bit noisy and has the potential to disturb nearby sleeping campers.

Nevertheless, don’t be intimidated by this toilet. It’s incredibly well-made using state-of-the-art technology and offers a terrific option for long trips out in nature or on the road.
